Happy Jenny Wiley Day!

You can go five or six directions in both the Lexington and Jenny Wiley. It doesn’t appear the Lexington will produce a Derby runner this year given overall point totals, but the winner here might well come back in the Preakness as a “new shooter”.

Trivia Question: Who was Jenny Wiley?

Race 9 – The Jenny Wiley – Grade I

One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Turf for Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Up

  1. Expensive Queen: She’s three for four since coming to the U.S. Most recently she won the Al Stall (93 Beyer) where she leveled off nicely. She’s going great. Lasix OFF. Mixed feelings.
  2. Fast Market: Runs here off a four month layoff after winning the Grade 3 Pebbles (93 Beyer) at the Big A. Came into her own once she was stretched out to a route a ground on the turf winning two of last three efforts. Will need her best.
  3. Medoro: In the Al Stall Memorial she had some traffic issues but came running to finish 2nd behind Expensive Queen (89 Beyer). Two back in the Marie Krantz at Fair Grounds she stalked and ran down the leaders (97 Beyer). Lasix OFF. Faces tougher today. Lean against.
  4. Pin Up Betty: Has won over $900k in purses while winning only four races. Consistent performer in the upper 80s to low 90s Beyers. Prefers the Churchill turf. Exotics only.
  5. Dynamic Pricing: First start since the First Lady last Fall where she came with a late run but still wasn’t all that close. While all five of her career wins are at the flat mile or this distance she prefers cut in the ground – which she won’t get. Passing.
  6. Deep Satin: First start off a five month layoff. Her best performance was at a mile and sixteenth in the Ballston Spa last summer where she as a strong second (96 Beyer). Passing.
  7. Lush Lips: Comes here on a three race win streak, her most recent start was in the Honey Fox in February where she stalked and pounced (95 Beyer). In the exacta in 10 of 12 starts. Player.
  8. Destino d’Oro: Came into her own this winter with wins in the Tropical Oaks, the Pegasus Filly and Mare Turf (94 Beyer), and Hillsborough (92 Beyer). She can sit mid-pack or close. Will need to stay closer today with an expected softer pace. Win candidate.
  9. Aussie Girl: Two back she was pulled up but came back and won the Endeavor Stakes at Tampa going gate to wire (89 Beyer) via an easy pace. Look for Ben Curtis to be aggressive from the gate. Will need to move forward to win but she could get loose on the lead. Exotics.
  10. Segesta: When we last saw this mare when she won the Grade I Matriarch at Del Mar (96 Beyer) with a stalking trip. Finished in the exacta in all four of her most recent starts dating back to a win last Summer in the Matchmaker at Monmouth. Prat stays in the saddle. Look for Prat to follow Aussie Girl and set up a pace pressing trip in the two path. The Pick.

Race 10 – The Lexington Stakes – Grade III

One Mile and a Sixteenth on the Dirt for Three Year Olds

  1. Corona de Oro: After three sprints this Bolt d’Oro colt stretched out to two turns and went gate to wire at 3/5 (87 Beyer). Should be sent from this rail post. Lasix OFF. Small slice.
  2. Exhibition Only: After multiple turf races he won a maiden claimer (83 Beyer) going a flat mile. From there he went to the Gotham where he was a no impact 4th (73 Beyer). Passing.
  3. Decisive Win: On debut he finished fourth by seven lengths after being on the pace and fading (74 Beyer). Now stretches out to two turns vs. winners. Too much too soon.
  4. Enforced Agenda: George Weaver ships in this Liam’s Map colt from Palm Beach Downs where he has been training since finishing third (of 4 horses) in the Gotham where he didn’t change leads (74 Beyer). Castellano rides here as Prat moves to Ezum. Not likely.
  5. Mister T: Starts his three year old campaign after three straight wins in Indiana state bred company at Horseshoe Indianapolis as a two year old. Beyer top is 69. Don’t see it.
  6. Ramblin: It took eight tries to break his maiden while primarily competing on the turf he then ran in overnight turf stakes at Fair Grounds where he was a distant fifth (65 Beyer). Moves to the dirt for the first time since his debut where he earned a 16 Beyer. Lasix OFF. Passing.
  7. The Hell We Did: Moves to two turns off a dominating thirteen length win vs. allowance company at Sunland (92 Beyer) last month in his first start as a three year old. Lasix OFF. Bred to go long and showed he could rate. Should sit in behind the speed. The Pick.
  8. Trendsetter: Moves to graded stakes company after running in a series of overnight stakes including a third in the Rushaway on the poly at Turfway (62 Beyer) where he lacked punch. Three week turnaround. Beyer top on dirt is 67. Not fast enough.
  9. Ezum: In his second career start he dominated a maiden field at Colonial Downs going a flat mile (87 Beyer). Lasix OFF. Prat is in the irons. Should be forwardly placed. Gets a piece.
  10. Confessional: Brad Cox trainee attracts Irad off a decent third in the Virginia Derby we was wide and had a clear run but lugged in several times which impacted his momentum (82 Beyer). Two back he faded in the Sam F. Davis. Hits the board.
  11. I Did I Did: Didn’t run a step on the poly at Turfway in January so Mike Maker moved this Curlin colt back to the dirt and he ran OK as he just missed in an optional claiming race (77 Beyer). Lasix OFF. Not likely.
