Happy Fountain of Youth Day!

There are eight graded stakes at Gulfstream Park card led by the Fountain of Youth and Davona Dale as the Kentucky Derby/Oaks preps continue to ramp up. The 50 points awarded to the winners of these two races should be sufficient to qualify for the Kentucky Oaks/Derby fields.

Trivia question: Who was Davona Dale?

Gulfstream Park Race 11 – The Davona Dale – Grade II

One Mile on the Dirt for Three Year Old Fillies

  1. My Miss Mo:Won a state bred maiden race at 1/10 then moved to the Sandpiper Stakes where she was off the pace but did make up some ground late (54 Beyer). This is too tough.
  2. Blazing Brat:Cross entered in the Busher Stakes for a new barn. Ran on the poly and turf until a start in the Sandpiper at Tampa. In that effort she was kept in the clear and stalked the pace and came with a decent run but the winner was well clear (64 Beyer). Not fast enough.
  3. Paradise:Cross entered in the Busher Stakesand Brad Cox has indicated she will run at the Big A. Went wire to wire as the odds on favorite to break her maiden at this distance (73 Beyer). Working well in advance of this.  Lasix OFF. If she goes here – it’s possible.
  4. Omaha Bay:Wonon debut as she broke well, got to the top and stayed on well as Swing Vote took a run at her but couldn’t get there (77 Beyer). Should be near the pace. Underneath.
  5. Imperatrice:Broke her maiden going the flat mile at Gulfstream (76 Beyer) then went in the Forward Gal where she was on the pace, took the lead, but couldn’t hold off On Time Girl (76 Beyer). Should stalk which should work with speed to her inside. Using.
  6. Haute Diva:Broke her maiden on the turf and the was eased in the Alcibiades last Fall after a turf race she went back to the dirt in the Cash Run Stakes and she made a sustained move from the back of the compact field to get the win (73 Beyer) going the flat mile. Needs to improve and will we see an improvement in her eighth career race?
  7. Swing Vote:Broke her maiden in her second start for Mott/Alvarado as she broke slow, stalked and then ran them down (87 Beyer). Looked a bit green but was going best late. Outside draw should help. Lasix OFF. The Pick.
  8. She Be Smooth:Pletcher trainee broke her maiden as first asking going the flat mile with a nice inside out trip to run down the favorite (78 Beyer). Lasix OFF. Irad picks On Time Girl over this one so Prat picks up this mount. Mixed feelings.
  9. On Time Girl:Won the Forward Gal with a strong move in the lane (82 Beyer)  and has shown improvement in all of her races. Two back she won the Fern Creek Stakes (82 Beyer) at six furlongs. Will need to carry her speed a bit further. Should be forwardly placed. Dangerous.

Gulfstream Park Race 14 – The Fountain of Youth – Grade II

One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt for Three Year Olds

  1. Jackson Hole:Undefeated $1.3 million Nyquist offspring broke his maiden for Pletcher as the odds on favorite going seven furlongs. He came back at Fair Grounds in optional claimer going two turns and he dominated (84 Beyer). Lasix OFF. Dangerous at a price.
  2. Rockies Balboa:Won a state bred N1X race as he drew off under a hand ride (80 Beyer). Takes the next step today going two turns and stakes company. Lasix OFF. Meh.
  3. Talkin:Has been off sincethe Remsen three where he finished up the track. Two back he was a distant second in the Champagne (84 Beyer). Might scratch here and run at Tampa next week.
  4. Commandment:Brad Cox trainee started his three year old season with a win in the Mucho Macho ManStakes where he stalked and then burst through a seam as he drew off in the final furlongs (91 Beyer). Win candidate.
  5. Bravaro:Cross-entered in the Rebel but will run here per Saffie Joseph. Tried open company in the Holy Bull where he tracked a hot pace and stayed on for second (88 Beyer). That followed a win in the NY bred Sleepy Hollow Stakes (84 Beyer). Faces some tough ones today.
  6. 6. ChiefWallabee:Broke his maiden on debut for Bill Mott going seven panels (89 Beyer) as he sat chilly and then ran by The Puma easily when asked. Two turns should work for this Constitution colt out of a Medaglia d’Oro mare. Lasix OFF. Mott preferred an N1X race before trying a stakes race – but he says he’s confident in this colt. He looks the goods and should be able to sit a trip behind the early speed as he did in his first effort. The Pick.
  7. NapoleonSolo:Liam’s Map colt hasn’t raced since he dominated the Champagne Stakes in October at the Big A (95 Beyer). Has been working nicely in advance of today for Chad Summers. Will he need a race off a four month layoff against fresher? Lean against.
  8. Bull by the Horns:Beyer top is 68 in threecareer races. Lasix comes OFF. Passing.
  9. Global Aviator:Will be scratched with a bone bruiseper his connections.
  10. Solitude Dude:Has won all three career races. Last out he dominated the listed Swale Stakes going seven furlongs at 1/5 as he went to the front and cruised (95 Beyer).  Should be sent from this post so he doesn’t get hung wide on the turn. Faces much tougher today. Maybe gets a piece.
  11. Lost Money:Maiden takes on graded stakes company from thisfar outside post. Was a distant second last out (75 Beyer). Lasix comes OFF. Passing.
