Presque Isle Downs Selections October 4th 2017


Race One:

1st: (3) BRIDA – Still a maiden after 19 tries but after showing nothing in his first two starts when blinkers were added, he woke up with a close second last out going six furlongs in decent time for this maiden level. Kim DePasquale wins 9% with her sprinters and gets Ayala.

2nd: (7) WHISKEY ZULU – Raced okay on the turf this year for trying Tapeta for the first time and he raced evenly after being bumped around at the start as the 2 to 1 favorite against this maiden claiming level. Tim Girten wins 26% after being beaten as the favorite.

3rd: (10) PHAT LARRY – Has yet to win here but usually runs well enough to get in the money. 3YO gelding was second twice in a row.


Race Two:

1st: (7) O’PRADDY – Looked good when she broke her maiden first time out going five furlongs then she came back with a good second. Lasix was added and she was second against this optional claiming level and against state-bred stakes foes. Adam Rice uses Ayala again.

2nd: (3) P. SUE – Broke her maiden second time out going 4 ½ furlongs then came back and did nothing against this optional claiming level. She was a good third last out against state-bred stakes foes and draws well today with Pablo Morales – 24% riding for Connelly.

3rd: (2) BUZZ OFF – Went gate to wire to hold on by a neck here going this distance in his well-bet career debut for Mike Rogers.


Race Three:

1st: (4) FEAR – Horse for the course returns from a turf sprint at Saratoga which went very fast to a long sprint for Mike LeCesse who wins 12% off medium rest & allowance runners. Son of the speedy MAIMONEDES draws well with Mario Pino – 21% with his sprint mounts.

2nd: (5) VIVA LAD – Horse for the course goes for win number ten here off a close second last out against this optional claiming level. He has tactical speed to secure position down the backside with Antonio Gallardo picking up the mount for Mike Trombetta.

3rd: (2B) DOMISSME – Horse for the course was a sharp winner two starts back then moved up to this level and he won again.


Race Four:

1st: (7) THALIA’S SONG – Rallied to miss by two lengths after being bumped at the start here going this distance in her well-bet career debut. She switches barns to Leland Hayes who wins 11% with his synthetic track starters and gets Mario Pino back aboard.

2nd: (8) FOUR K’S – Rallied some in her career debut then she came back and tired going this distance against maiden special weight company. She shows a bullet workout since her last start and drops down to maiden claimers for Dave Markgraf.

3rd: (4) SALSA DELIGHT – Dropped down to maiden claimers two starts back and raced evenly before running third last out with these.


Race Five:

1st: (2) ONE BUCK ROMA – Horse for the course just missed going gate to wire two starts back then moved up to this claiming level and just missed again as the 2 to 1 favorite. Ed Clouston wins 21% first start after being beaten as the favorite and 20% with his claimers.

2nd: (1A) MIDNIGHT PUNK – Rallied from off the pace to miss by a length in a wide trip then came back & just missed going gate to wire when he moved up in class making his first start off the claim. Son of MIDNIGHT LUTE has the highest speed rating at today’s distance.

3rd: (6) TWO PUTT – Horse for the course responded off two even efforts with a good win against $16K claimers and now drops down.
