Presque Isle Downs Selections 08-16-2016



Race One:

1st: (2B) DIAMOND RIDER – Woke up 3 starts back when he dropped way down in class & missed by a neck here. He came back to break his maiden next out going this distance then was a sharp winner against this claiming price. Randy Russell wins 13% first start after a win.

2nd: (3) MAVERICK’S ACE – Was a game second two starts back going six furlongs in fast time then he came back and gunned to the front and almost held on as the 7 to 5 favorite. The trainer has not won a race but she is able to get Ron Allen, Jr. – 18% with his sprinters.

3rd: (5) WORTHURWEIGHTNGOLD – Rallied from far back to get second in his second start against this claiming level.


Race Two:

1st: (9) BREZNO – Beat this claiming level and was claimed by Dale Capuano. He raced evenly when moved up in class then dropped back down last out and just missed going a two-turn mile in fast time. Capuano wins 29% with his synthetic starters and 18% going long.

2nd: (1) TOTAL FUTBOL – Horse for the course was a good second two starts in a row against this claiming level then he came back and won by a nose after a rough trip. He faces the same level from post two for Ron Potts who wins 16% with his claimers and 21% after a win.

3rd: (2) SAFARI ARTIE – Horse for the course won two in a row against much cheaper claimers then ran well against these last out.


Race Three:

1st: (6) MYTHMAKER – Took him 12 starts to break his maiden and he came close the two prior starts here. Turf runner has taken to Tapeta very nicely for Hall of Famer Jonathan Sheppard who wins 14% first start after a maiden win and 20% with his synthetic starters.

2nd: (2) CRAZYCANTBERIGHTED – Added blinkers 2 starts back here against allowance foes then went to Thistledown & was an even fourth as the odds-on favorite against Ohio-Breds. He comes back here for Ron Potts; 26% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

3rd: (3) RANK – Beat cheaper claimers by four lengths two starts back on a sloppy Churchill Downs track then raced evenly last out.


Race Four:

1st: (11) VICTORY BRINGER – Tired going two turns two starts in a row against this claiming level then turned back to this sprint distance and just missed hanging on. Larry Hayes wins 10% with his overall claimers and synthetic track starters. Mario Pino rides back.

2nd: (1) EYE OF THE EAGLE – 10YO gelding looks for win number 13. He was a good third going six furlongs in fast time at long odds against one level better then dropped down to these and lost all chance when bumped around at the start. Addie Ayala rides back.

3rd: (4) INFINITYS MOON – Raced evenly two starts back then missed by a neck in a game effort for Ron Puhl – 13% with his sprinters.


Race Five:

1st: (8) LADY LOHR – Incredible mare has won 20 times here and shows no signs of letting up at the age of ten. She has good early speed and won four straight before missing by a length last out. Cal-bred has the highest BRIS speed rating on Tapeta and this distance.

2nd: (1A) CHUMP CHANGE – Romped by five lengths two starts back on the dirt at Finger Lakes then she rallied from off the pace to get up in time there. Ferraro wins 24% first start after a win and 20% with his claimers. Last year’s leading rider Antonio Gallardo rides.

3rd: (3) HOOT AND HOLLER – Dropped down to the bottom two starts back and he won easily then was an even third on dirt last out.


Race Six:

1st: (8) DELTA FORCE – Woke up two starts back in his Tapeta debut when he went to the front and drew off to win by six lengths. He tired last out when moved up in class & now drops way down for Gerry Brooks who wins 27% with this move and 22% going short to long.

2nd: (4) YAKABOBO – Won gamely going two turns here in his two-turn debut & tries winners today for Nick Caruso who wins 20% on synthetic & 15% first start after a maiden win. Son of SUPER SAVER is out of a dam by OFFLEE WILD that was grade two stakes-placed.

3rd: (6) WISE AMIGO – Won his Tapeta debut three starts back then rallied from way back the last two starts here.


Race Seven:

1st: (8) EVIL DOER – Raced evenly two starts back here going six furlongs against one level better then he added blinkers last out and almost went gate to wire when dropped back down. Lance Stokes wins 15% with his claiming sprinters and gets in light again with Ayala.

2nd: (1) UNCAGED – Speedball breaking from the rail was a sharp winner two starts back in a turf sprint going five furlongs last October. He came back and was bumped at the start when dropped to this level for John Bourke who wins 17% second start off the layoff.

3rd: (2) BASES LOADED – Has some decent efforts against this claiming level but has yet to win here in seven tries.


Race Eight:

1st: (4) TRUE GHOST – Has yet to win here in six tries but this might be the weakest group he has ever faced. He was a good third in a wide trip two starts back then came back here as the 6 to 5 favorite and just missed after being shuffled back from post one.

2nd: (7) NEW MATERIAL – Was absolutely crushed in his first two career starts on dirt and turf against better company. He shipped to Finger Lakes and was a good third going six furlongs when dropped down to this maiden claiming level. Luis Garcia rides.

3rd: (8) PRINCE OF THORNS – Still winless after 25 starts but showed signs of life last out when he stalked a slow pace.
